We’re running the Marathon

2008

COME out and watch us on april 13th

Thanks for all your support in the run-up to the big day. If you are going to be out on the day, please let us know - god knows we’ll need the thought of a friendly face or two around the course to get us around!

MILE 21

More or less, this is by the 21-mile mark and the large pillars and balloons which signal it (which hopefully you can’t miss!)

Last year we ended up on Commercial Road where it crosses the canal below, which worked pretty well as a landmark for people to gravitate towards. Also the canal provides a potential handy crossing point of the road.

The crowds are pretty busy (nay, manic) at Limehouse DLR station but luckily are a bit more manageable this further up Commercial Road. The only real challenge is getting from MILE 14 to MILE 21, but you can do this without having to cross the route itself, so it’s only the crowd to deal with. Plus there’s 7 miles for us to run between the two, so that’ll give you about an hour after we’ve seen you to get there!

MILE 14

Basically, just as the course turns the corner from the Highway into Narrow Street. On the map here, you can see The Hwy and Narrow St - the course comes from the West along the Highway and turns to the right down to Narrow St, heading south and then East.

Nearest DLR station is Limehouse.

It’s actually probably not massively clear on the map, but the last few years we’ve been able to find it in practice. There’s a patch of greenery that has a handy path from south of the station down to Butcher Row - you then need to just get yourself down a bit to Narrow Street.

One key tip: make sure you stay on the correct side of the route itself, otherwise you’ll struggle to get from this point to Mile 21 (below) as it’s pretty much impossible to cross the runners!

Wherever you’re going to be, please drop us a line (email link at bottom of the page) so we know where to find you. We’ve also identified a few spots where we’ve asked some friends to congregate (you know who you are!). They are the same places we’ve been the last few years to watch, so you should be able to find them easily enough (or call Lee, Ruth, or someone else who found them last year!)

If you can make it to the start, fantastic - you can see us off! Take your pick of anywhere local to you, otherwise, we recommend Miles 14 and 21 near Limehouse:

M

AT THE END

We are going to try and rendezvous by the letter M in the repatriation area in Horseguards Parade (which you should be able to reach from Whitehall or  off The Mall/St James’ Park) - it’ll be signposted.

Once we’ve found each other (and, in that time, probably some of you guys) and are re-mobiled, we are going to head to the Children’s Trust post-race Party in Victoria. It’s at Bar Ha Ha in Cardinal Place near Victoria (off Victoria Street) and all of you guys are invited - please come and join us there for some drinks and the like.

Above: Ha Ha Bar is in Cardinal Place, which you can see above - click on the map to get a higher-quality version.

Left: In context on the Google Map, although the marker isn’t quite in the right place, due to.. well, I’m not sure why really.

CHEER HERE!
